TAMPA — A police officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Sunday night after a 20-year-old man accused of drunken driving crashed into his cruiser, officials said.
The officer, Cpl. Robert Clifford, and an unidentified person who was in custody at the time of the crash were taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Bradley Weber, 20, of Land O'Lakes was arrested just after midnight with a blood alcohol reading of 0.180 — well above the 0.08 limit at which point the state presumes impairment.
Weber's pickup truck crashed into the police cruiser at about 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of 42nd Street and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, as Weber attempted to make a left turn, police said. The pickup drove directly into the southbound cruiser's path, officials said.
According to jail records, Weber works as a bartender at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel.
An investigation remained under way early Monday morning.
