WEEKI WACHEE — A man robbed the Bank of America branch near Weeki Wachee Springs State Park on Tuesday afternoon, then fled on a bicycle, authorities said.
The robbery occurred at 3:32 at the branch at 9223 Cortez Blvd., at the intersection of Cortez and U.S. 19, according to reports from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect was described as a heavy-set white man, roughly 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing 250 to 275 pounds. He was wearing a baseball cap and dark sunglasses, a dark-colored sweatshirt and possibly light-colored pants. He was carrying a teal/green backpack and was last seen leaving the bank on a bicycle.
A Sheriff's Office spokeswoman could not confirm whether the robber was armed.
A few hours earlier, a man armed with a silver revolver robbed a BB&T branch in New Port Richey. Authorities said that man does not appear to be the same suspect who robbed the Weeki Wachee bank.
