TAMPA — Thomas Gonzalez, who represents both the Hillsborough County School Board and the district, has resigned as board attorney. "I just think it's time to start talking about a transition," Gonzalez, 62, said Friday.
Gonzalez, a specialist in labor law, worked as outside council for the district from 1975 until his predecessor, Crosby Few, retired in 2004. At the superintendent's recommendation, the board hired Gonzalez with little discussion.
Gonzalez said he is not retiring and will continue to handle litigation for the district. Nonetheless, school board chairwoman Candy Olson said, "he will be very hard to replace," because of his expertise and his ties to the community.
