ST. PETERSBURG — Police on Friday arrested a man they say shot into a car six times this month, wounding one person.

Deon Johnson Jr., 23, whom authorities said is a transient, is charged with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The shooting occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. March 9 in the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street S, according to an arrest affidavit.

Two people, a man named Marcus Broomes and a woman named Candice Howell, were inside the car at the time. Howell and Johnson previously dated, police said.

One of the bullets hit Broomes in the back, requiring a trip to the hospital. His condition was unknown Saturday.

Johnson remained in the Pinellas County Jail without bail.
