TAMPA — Police officers cited a Hillsborough school bus driver Friday after she hit a 6-year-old.
Chrishawon Ellis got off the bus and was crossing the street toward his home on East Liberty Street near N 51st Street when the bus driver stepped on the gas, according to Tampa Police. He's a first grader at Pizzo Elementary, according to the Hillsborough County School District.
Chrishawon was taken to Tampa General Hospital with a broken leg and possible other non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The bus driver, Betty Louise Thomas, 60, was cited for failure to use due care to avoid a pedestrian.
She's been driving for the Hillsborough County School District since 2007 and has a clean driving record, said a spokesman for the district.
