DADE CITY

Woman faces DUI, child abuse charges

A woman was arrested on drunken driving and child abuse charges after deputies found a bottle of vodka and a 5-year-old boy in her car.

Soraya Monzote, 43, of 12848 Amber Renee Lane, apartment 204, was found about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with her Toyota Corolla's two front wheels over the curb in a parking lot on Sarah Lynn Drive, a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report said. The deputy noticed she smelled of alcohol and she told him she'd had "around two drinks," the report said. When asked for a driver's license, she said it had been suspended because she had no insurance. Monzote refused to take a breath or urine test and was arrested. In her car, deputies found a bottle with a clear liquid labeled as vodka.

She told deputies she started drinking after an argument with her husband and that she had gone to pick up the boy from the bus stop and had driven to the parking lot where deputies responded. Because the boy said he had been in the car, deputies added a child abuse charge. She was booked at the Land O'Lakes and released early Thursday.
