ST. PETERSBURG — A man was in critical condition Wednesday night after being hit by a car that veered off the Interstate 275 exit ramp at 38th Avenue N.
John Alan McDonald, 53, was standing in the grass on the east side of the I-275 exit ramp about 7:45 p.m. when a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse went off the road and hit him, St. Petersburg police said. McDonald was thrown to the pavement on 38th Avenue N. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the Eclipse, Melody Marie Scott, 29, also struck two metal road signs, police said. An investigation of the crash is ongoing.
