BRANDON — Three people were injured after jumping out of their second-floor windows when a fire broke out early Tuesday at an apartment complex, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reported.
The unidentified people were hospitalized with minor injuries after fire broke out at the Village of Brandon Apartments.
Crews responded about 1:06 a.m. Firefighters said about three-fourths of the roof was burning when they arrived, according to Bay News 9. About 40 firefighters responded to the fire.
The upstairs units are attached to a single staircase, which filled with smoke and forced three residents to jump from their windows to escape the fast-moving fire, fire officials said.
The apartment building that caught fire was considered a total loss. Seven of the eight units were occupied, housing a total of 22 people.
An investigation remained under way Tuesday morning.
